The project is the restoration and revival of the long unused Drapers’ Hall, situated in the historic Coventry city centre.. This Grade II* Listed regency building, is truly exceptional. Not only is it a remarkable survivor of both the war time bombing and post war redevelopment, but also due to diligent maintenance, it remains intact and almost unaltered from its Victorian heyday – a time capsule to the past.
Current Status: This project will conserve the historic building but also create a new outward facing extension that turns the building around and opens it up, providing welcoming easy access onto the public open space via a new-build atrium. The new-build extension also provides the capability to service the historic building to modern standards with a lift, sufficient toilets without compromising the historic fabric. Historic Coventry are working in partnership with The Princes Foundation and Coventry Music Service to restore this beautiful building which will be open in time for UK City of Culture 2021.
